Within days, the sulky feline's photos (with hilarious grouchy phrases on them) went viral, earning her the nickname "Grumpy Cat." Today, her face is everywhere—from clothing to the cover ofNew Yorkmagazine. The sourpuss even has a movie in the works! But in real life, Tardar is far from grumpy. "She's the complete opposite of what her face says," Bryan explains. "She's loving."

RISE TO FAMEIn 2009, one of Caroline Golon's coworkers inspired her to create a Twitter account for her cat, Romeo, joking, "If he gets more followers than I do, I'll be really mad!" To sweeten the project, Caroline offered a 5¢ donation to an animal rescue group for every follower Romeo got. Gradually, his funny tweets earned him 20,000 fans.
HOW HE HELPSAll the ad revenue from Romeo's website,RomeotheCat.com, goes to groups helping animals. Each year Caroline also solicits corporate sponsors to donate to the six shelters she selects. So far, Romeo has raised and donated ,000.
The "Cindy Clawford" of Kitty Supermodels
RISE TO FAMEOne look at Venus and you might think her picture was digitally altered, but this pretty kitty was born with a rare "two-faced" chimera look. When her owner rescued Venus and put a photo onRedditin 2012, she became a sensation. Her page at Facebook.com/VenustheAmazingChimeraCat, attracts more than 3,000 admirers a week.
HOW SHE HELPSVenus's Facebook page promotes animal rescue organizations and events, and rallies visitors to donate to "trap, neuter, spay" programs. The toy company GUND also created a plush version of Venus, and part of the profits go to The Florida Humane Society.
The Blind YouTube Sensation
RISE TO FAMEWhile visiting a farm in Iowa, Mick and Bethany Szydlowski fell in love with a tiny blind stray kitten and took him home. Oskar became a YouTube favorite after the couple posted a comical video of him batting at a hair dryer. Another film of the kitten playing with his very first toy racked up about 5 million views.
