How to Use the Xposed Framework

Four Parts:

This wikiHow teaches you how to install and use the Xposed Framework mod on an Android. Your Android must be rooted in order for you to use most of the modules that are available in the Xposed Framework.

Steps

Preparing to Install

  1. Make sure that your Android's operating system is compatible.As of December 2019, the Xposed Framework is usable with Marshmallow (6) and Nougat (7) operating systems, but not with Oreo (8).
    • You can check your phone's operating system by openingSettings, scrolling down and tappingAbout phone, and looking at the number next to the "Operating system" section.
  2. Back up your Android.Before installing the Xposed Framework, it's important to make sure that your data is backed up and ready to restore in case something goes wrong during the installation.
    • This is especially important if you haven't yet rooted your phone.
  3. Root your Android.If your Android isn't already rooted, do so now, as you'll need your Android to be rooted before you can install the Xposed Framework.
    • Keep in mind that rooting your Android generally is against the manufacturer's terms of use.
  4. Enable downloads from unknown sources.This will allow you to download and install the Xposed Framework installer program. To do so:
    • Open Settings
    • TapSecurityorLock screen and security
    • Tap the grey "Unknown sources" switch
    • TapOKif prompted.
  5. Find your Android's CPU type.You'll need to know whether your Android uses a 32-bit ARM, 64-bit ARM, or Intel CPU.
    • AIDA64 is a good app to use, as you can download it, open it, and immediately selectCPUto see your Android's CPU type without having to enter any code.

Downloading the Installer

  1. Open Chrome.Tap the Chrome app icon in the App Drawer to do so.
  2. Tap the address bar.It's at the top of the screen. This will select the address bar's contents.
  3. Go to the APK Mirror site.Typehttps://www.apkmirror.com/into Chrome, then tap theEnterkey.
  4. Tap the search bar.It's in the upper-right side of the page.
  5. Search for the Xposed installer.Typexposed installer 3.1.4into the search bar and tapEnter.
  6. Find the"Xposed Installer 3.1.4 entry" and tap it.It should be in the middle of the page.
  7. TapDOWNLOAD APK.This button is in the lower-right corner of the Xposed Installer page, though you may need to scroll down to see it on some phones.
    • You may have to tapYES,OK, orALLOWbefore the app will download.
  8. Tap the "download complete" notification when prompted.It will appear at the top of the screen. This will open the Xposed Installer's APK page.
  9. TapINSTALL.It's in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Doing so will install the Xposed Installer app on your Android.
    • Again, you may have to confirm this action by tappingYES,OK, orALLOW.

Installing Xposed

  1. Open the Xposed Installer.Tap the Xposed Installer app icon in your Android's App Drawer.
  2. Tap .It's in the top-left corner of the screen. A pop-out menu will appear.
  3. TapFramework.This tab is in the pop-out menu.
  4. TapINSTALL/UPDATE.You'll find this option near the top of the page. This prompts a pop-up menu to display.
  5. TapInstall.It's in the pop-up menu.
  6. TapGRANTwhen prompted.The Xposed Framework will begin installing on your Android.
  7. Wait for the Xposed Framework to install.This may take a few minutes.
  8. TapRebootwhen prompted.It's in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Your Android will restart itself, after which point the Xposed Framework will be officially installed.

Installing Mods

  1. Open the Xposed Installer.Tap the Xposed Installer app icon.
  2. Tap .This is in the top-left corner of the screen.
  3. TapDownload.It's an option in the pop-out menu. Doing so opens a list of modules available for download.
  4. Find a module to download.Scroll through the options until you find a module that you would like to install.
  5. Select a module.Tap the module that you want to use.
  6. Tap theVersionstab.It's at the top of the screen.
  7. TapDownload.You'll find this near the top of the page. Doing so will prompt the module to download.
  8. Tap again, then tapModules.This will bring up a list of your currently installed modules.
  9. Select modules for installation.Check the box next to any module that you want to install.
  10. Restart your phone.Press and hold your phone's "Power" button until a menu appears, then tapRestart. Once your phone finishes restarting, the checked modules will be installed.

    In extreme cases, all it would be capable of is a soft brick, but in most cases, deactivating it on boot up solves the problem.

    If it takes more than 15 minutes, then you have a boot loop. To fix this, press the power button until the phone shows you the splash screen. At the start of the boot animation, press the volume up button a few times. This will deactivate Xposed.
